Pet Pampering Popular with Animal Lovers
(ARA) - When people need pampering, theyve long retreated to their favorite spas,
treated themselves to special gifts and savored their favorite foods. With increasing
frequency, more and more pets are enjoying the same kinds of tender loving care. In a
recent survey by the American Animal Hospital Association, a majority of pet owners said
they had cooked special meals for their pets, given them holiday and birthday gifts, and
played special music for their animals.
According to the survey, 93 percent of pet owners said they felt that love and
attention contributed more to their pets quality of life than anything else.
As a longtime pet owner, I know what an important part of the family pets can
be, says lifestyle expert Sandra Lee and creator of the Semi-Homemade(R) philosophy.
People do more for their pets sometimes than they do for themselves, and
theyre always looking for new ways to shower their pets with affection.

Don't
Be an Animal: Prevent Cruelty to Your Pet
(WMS) - Many people do not set out to intentionally harm their pets, but unknowingly do so
through actions they'd never imagine were cruel. For example, did you know that one of the
easiest ways to injure your pet is through over-feeding? An obese cat or dog cannot live
its life to the fullest and may face several other health concerns as a result of being
overweight.

Tips for Attracting More Birds to Your Feeder
(ARA) - Ever wonder why some backyards seem to naturally
attract more colorful birds to the feeder? Chances are that it didn't just happen. The
homeowner probably followed a few basic steps to make sure the birds weren't attracted to
the feeder just once, but again and again.

PET TID BITS
The Nose Knows
(WMS) - Perhaps you've noticed that some dogs' noses change
color from black to lighter shades. Don't fret; it doesn't necessarily mean that your pet
is ill. Oftentimes, dogs who eat and drink out of plastic or porous bowls have a pigment
change in their nose because they experience an allergic reaction to the bacteria that
gets trapped in the bowls. Pet experts advise that you should use stainless steel bowls
instead. Another cause for loss of pigment is seasonal changes. Many dogs develop
"winter nose," when less time in the sun causes the nose to lighten. When the
longer days of summer return, the nose should turn back to its regular color.

Make the Most Out of
Your Spring Visit to the Veterinarian
You're not the only one who's tired of cold weather. Your pet
has been looking forward to spring, too. To help your pet enjoy the great outdoors this
season, you should schedule a spring check-up with your veterinarian to make sure your pet
is ready to ward off the newest crop of ticks, heartworm-causing mosquitoes and other
parasites.

ANIMAL CRUELTY PREVENTION MONTH
Teachers Should Carefully Consider
a Classroom Mascot
(WMS) - Animals are
relied upon for many reasons: they can be a trusted companion, a set of eyes for the
blind, a devout worker or even just someone to cuddle. Many people, teachers especially,
also believe that an animal can be a good asset for the classroom -- a learning tool. And
according to the ASPCA, a classroom pet can be a great asset when teaching life sciences,
building empathy and respect for living things, and fostering responsibility. But they
also say that the learning environment can turn sour when, at the end of the school year,
the classroom mascot becomes the classroom problem and must be turned over to the local
animal shelter because there is no one to care for him or her. Though you may have fond
memories of your classroom hamster, fish, guinea pig, or mouse, consider these pointers,
courtesy of the ASPCA before you decide if an animal is right for the classroom.

WMS) - Cats are inherently
grooming fanatics. They use their own saliva to keep fur in place and clean. However, you
can still give your feline friend a traditional bath at least once a month. And keep nails
trimmed so that they don't become a nuisance for kitty or you. |
Teach Children To Beware Of Bites
(NAPSA)-It's important for people to protect children from dog bites-even if a dog
does not have a history of biting.
Each year 4.7 million Americans are bitten by dogs, and 60 percent of the victims are
children. Children are frequently bitten on the face, which can result in severe
lacerations, infection or scarring. If a child is severely bitten by a dog, parents should
ask the emergency room physician to call a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board
of Plastic Surgery (ensuring the doctor is qualified to perform reconstructive and
cosmetic procedures on the face and all areas of the body).Read The Complete Story |
