(NAPSI)Consumer interest in the latest all-natural products or
treatments to help achieve a well-balanced, healthy lifestyle for themselves and their
loved ones is now at an all-time high.
And, since most pet owners consider their animal companions to be true members of their
families, it is no surprise that they want their pets to benefit from these new,
innovative and perhaps uncommon pet products and services as well.
"Pet owners have become increasingly interested in maintaining the good health and
well-being of their pets. They are using products containing natural ingredients and
exploring alternative or non-traditional options in current health services," said
Funda Alp, director of communications for the American Pet Products Manufacturers
Association (APPMA). "In turn, the pet products market has seen the introduction of
all-natural vitamins, supplements and medications, nutritionally sound food and treat
products and herbal grooming supplies."
In addition to all-natural living, consumers have recently grown more interested in
unconventional and alternative health care regimens for their pets. When considering such
treatments as herbal and botanical medicines, chiropractic therapy or homeopathy services,
APPMA offers the following suggestions to assist pet owners in making educated and
appropriate choices to help ensure the health and well-being of their companion animals:
Confirm that your veterinarian holds the proper training, qualifications and
licenses to practice natural medicine.
Pets are what they eat! Closely manage your pets nutritional intake by
feeding them a high-quality, balanced diet. Try to avoid preservatives and never offer
your pet "people-food." Healthy treats are great rewards for companion animals,
but use them in moderation.
Remember to follow label directions for all prescription medications and
over-the-counter remedies. Be sure to check each for expiration dates.
If your pet currently takes a prescription medication, seek advice from your
veterinarian before introducing any new prescription or alternative treatments.
Remember natural and alternative medicine supplements conventional medicine
practice especially when surgery, antibiotics or advanced testing is needed.
