A New Collection Of Classic American Shirts
Introduced in 1924, one shirt gets credit for bringing color and pattern to men's shirts.

Classic_American_Shirts.gif (23145 bytes)(NAPSI)-It used to be that a man could get any color wool shirt he wanted-as long as he wanted a grey one.

Then, in 1924, thanks to one company, things changed for the better. Today, its contribution to men's fashion continues to evolve.

Then:

• Clarence M. Bishop of the Pendleton Woolen Mills had a vision for wool shirts in vivid colors and intricate patterns. In 1924, the legendary Pendleton pure virgin wool men's shirt was born. It brought colors and patterns to what had been a dull and colorless functional shirt. Soon, the shirt became a coveted item.

Over the years, the combination of expert dyeing, the highest-quality wools and the soft water of the Pacific Northwest have helped give endleton fabrics vivid, lustrous colors that do not fade. They have also helped the company make a number of contributions to men's and women's fashions over the years.

Now:

• The company is introducing what it calls the Eight Decade Collection. This group of shirts features a 100 percent pure virgin wool shirt in a pattern from each decade since the company introduced its first shirt in 1924.

This collection of shirts-one from the '20s, '30s, '40s, '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s and '90s-includes the authentic western look of the Canyon shirt from the 1980s and a Beach Boys-style shirt that evokes the style of Southern California in the '60s.

Each shirt in this special heritage collection has a commemorative label sewn inside the front bottom placket.

The collection is topped off with the introduction of a new, soft lightweight wool shirt fabric called Zephyr cloth. "The Decade Shirt" introduces the virtues of wool to a younger urban male.

Said Jim Buckner, who heads the company's Menswear division, "With our continuing fabric innovation, Pendleton shirts have appeal for both younger men and for those who have worn Pendleton for many of our eight decades."
